About the Graduate School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences, Nagasaki University

We list here the five key benefits of studying at Nagasaki University’s Graduate School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences.

1. You can study the humanities and social sciences from the basics

You can make a thorough study of the basic elements of the humanities and social sciences as a compulsory subject regardless of your major at the university. In addition to university graduates from Japan and overseas, a wide range of people are studying here, such as company employees, schoolteachers, journalists, and household workers. You can receive multiple stimuli from interacting and exchanging information with them.

2. Academic staff with abundant overseas experience provide multilingual instruction

Research guidance is given in Japanese and English. You can write your master’s thesis in Japanese, English, or Chinese. Teachers with a wealth of practical experience, research, and study overseas will be more than happy to provide guidance; we have speakers of Dutch, German, French, Italian, Hungarian, Turkish, Mongolian, and other languages.

3. You can take a practical study program at the National Museum of Japanese History

You can learn how to analyze and display historical materials in a four-day practical training program, “Integrated Studies of Cultural and Research Resources,” at the National Museum of Japanese History in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture. You will learn and acquire techniques for expressing your research results in papers and various forms from experts.

4. Questioning peace from the land of Nagasaki

We have a unique research program that specializes in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. You can learn the significance of peace in Nagasaki, the world’s most recent atomic bombed site.

5. Skill-raising programs for English teachers

You can obtain a high school teacher’s license to teach English through a specialized program in English education.

One of our educational goals is to develop human resources who can demonstrate international leadership in this era of globalization. Based on these five valuable points, we will provide the necessary guidance system in collaboration with partner universities of the WISE Program.
